Well-conditioned hair can literally knock years off your appearance. And, thankfully, you can achieve lustrous locks and anti-age your hair naturally and simply. Essential oils are extremely helpful in hair care as they influence the sebaceous glands, normalising their functions. They benefit all hair types and leave hair smelling good, too – an added bonus, particularly at this time of year when you’re probably socialising a lot more than usual! Using them in your hair is also a great way to surround yourself with a light veil of your favourite natural fragrances, rather than heavier perfumes which can be overpowering.
Extra demands on your time right now leave less time for you so try this all-in-one shampoo and conditioner – a quick treat for dull, damaged hair. It contains egg yolks which are great emulsifiers and wonderful for softening and conditioning the hair.
Shampoo & conditioner (all-in-one)
2 egg yolks
1 tablespoon (15ml) vodka
1 drop lemon essential oil
1 drop tea tree essential oil
(All organic, if possible)
Mix up in a bowl. Shampoo your hair with the mixture and cover with a shower cap. Leave on for five to ten minutes, then rinse. Important: make sure you rinse it out with tepid / lukewarm water (otherwise you may find you have an omelette on your head!).
You can also help prevent hair problems – a good diet is essential to take care of your hair, for instance. Make sure you have plenty of vitamin B (pantothenate or panthothenic acid, found in B complex, is especially good for stress-related hair problems) – nuts, wheatgerm and fish oils are all good sources. A diet rich in minerals helps the condition of the scalp and citrus fruits can boost your hair’s shine.
Also try to shampoo your hair only two to three times a week. If you need to wash your hair more at the moment, due to lots of nights out, shampoo and rinse only once. It’ll freshen your hair – and your mind – and set you up for the day but won’t strip too many of those all important natural oils which add to the glossy hair you’re looking to have now, in particular!
